What Companionship Volunteers Do
Volunteers support — they don't replace — our clinical care team. Their role centers on presence, conversation, and quiet support.
- Maintain a calm, comforting presence with patients
- Listen and engage in meaningful conversation
- Read aloud or share music, films, and shows
- Provide scheduled respite for primary caregivers
- Operate within clearly defined volunteer boundaries
Volunteer Requirements
To uphold the quality and safety of our care, every volunteer completes a structured onboarding process before patient contact.
- 18 years of age or older
- Valid Driver's License or state-issued Photo ID
- Clear comprehensive background screening
- Required health clearances (TB testing — agency-funded)
- Completion of hospice volunteer orientation & training
- Commitment to confidentiality & HIPAA compliance
- Ability to document visits per care team guidelines
