What Companionship Volunteers Do

Volunteers support — they don't replace — our clinical care team. Their role centers on presence, conversation, and quiet support.

  • Maintain a calm, comforting presence with patients
  • Listen and engage in meaningful conversation
  • Read aloud or share music, films, and shows
  • Provide scheduled respite for primary caregivers
  • Operate within clearly defined volunteer boundaries

Volunteer Requirements

To uphold the quality and safety of our care, every volunteer completes a structured onboarding process before patient contact.

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Valid Driver's License or state-issued Photo ID
  • Clear comprehensive background screening
  • Required health clearances (TB testing — agency-funded)
  • Completion of hospice volunteer orientation & training
  • Commitment to confidentiality & HIPAA compliance
  • Ability to document visits per care team guidelines
